Best Restaurants in Sanur: 18 Places We Happily Recommend

Asking for the single best restaurant in Sanur is like asking a mother to nominate her favourite child. She may have one, but she is sensible enough not to announce it at Christmas lunch.

Sanur’s food scene is one of the reasons we love it. You can eat Indonesian food in a tiny warung, enjoy lunch with your toes near the sand, dress up for a romantic dinner or find a menu that pleases three generations at once. Here are the restaurants we return to and recommend, arranged by the holiday moment they suit best.

Beautiful beachfront restaurants in Sanur

Kayumanis Seaside Restaurant is one of our favourites for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At night, tables beneath trees and lights, with the sound of the water nearby, create a genuinely special setting. We have enjoyed the beef rendang and often take visiting friends there.

Byrd House is a lovely choice when you want a more polished beachfront evening. The garden and beachside setting feel magical after dark, and it works well for a celebration or special dinner.

La Playa is relaxed, social and very easy to enjoy. We often include it in a beachfront wander, especially when there is a good current drinks offer.

Bobby’s proves that luxury is sometimes a table under a beautiful tree, the sound of the sea and no reason to hurry. It is casual, friendly and particularly charming in the evening.

Tootsies, near Sindhu Beach, has a wonderful toes-near-the-sand atmosphere and has offered a broad happy-hour cocktail selection. We would return for the view and relaxed location even when the cocktail clock is off duty.

Luhtu’s Bakery is ideal for a casual breakfast or lunch near the beach, with fresh bread, sandwiches and cakes. It is unpretentious in exactly the right way.

Special dinners without the silly fuss

Mona Lisa is one of those reliable Sanur favourites that welcomes you warmly and feeds you very well. We have enjoyed excellent-value multi-course dinners there and always leave feeling looked after.

Kayu Manis—the inland restaurant, not the seaside venue—is a beautiful choice for a refined meal. Make sure you have the right location when booking, because Sanur enjoys keeping us alert with similar names.

Naga Eight is worth considering when you want stylish surroundings and a more elevated evening.

Pescado and The Brasserie are other names from our special-dinner list. Menus and opening details can change, so check what is current when you book.

Dependable favourites for lunch or dinner

Lilla Warung has long been a favourite because the menu is consistently good. My standing instruction is simple: leave room for dessert.

Brasserie Republic does excellent baguettes, pizza and a Parisian chicken salad I genuinely crave. It is a comfortable place for a long lunch and a glass of wine.

Gardenia is one of those useful all-rounders: friendly service, good-value meals, homemade cakes and choices that suit the day when you simply want a toastie or curry.

Warung Blanjong is a regular lunch choice for cap cay with chicken and red rice, or a club sandwich when Indonesian spice is taking a brief annual leave.

Uno Italian on Jalan Danau Tamblingan gave our whole table a good meal, including seafood marinara, lasagne and aglio e olio. It also had gluten-free choices and wheelchair access when we visited.

Santorini is a handy choice when the holiday group suddenly needs Greek food. Sanur is wonderfully international like that.

Taqisa is one to try for Mexican food, with tasty nachos and burritos plus useful gluten-free and dairy-free possibilities.

Warung Sports combines a vast menu, Indonesian and comfort food, cold beer, events and a very good gluten-free selection. Then there is the pavlova. Order it and accept your destiny.

Eating with dietary or access needs

We have found useful gluten-free choices at places including Warung Sports, Dapur Deli, Massimo, Taqisa, Mozza, Bali Sabi and several others. We have also recorded step-free or wheelchair-friendly access at a range of venues, including Warung Sports, Gardenia, La Playa, Pescado, Mona Lisa and Uno Italian at the time of our visits.

However, kitchens, menus and entrances change. If an allergy or accessibility feature is essential, contact the venue directly, explain exactly what you need and confirm cross-contamination procedures or step-free access before you travel.

Our simple Sanur dining strategy

Book special-occasion venues. Keep a short list of casual backups. Check current opening days. And leave room for one completely unplanned meal at the place that simply looks good as you walk past. Some of our best Sanur evenings began with, “Shall we just stop here?”

A villa made for people who love eating together

Sanur Soul Villa 1 places guests close to the restaurants and cafés of southern Sanur, but it also gives you a fully equipped Western kitchen, dining space and a private pool for slow breakfasts and long lunches at home. With four ensuite bedrooms and space for up to eight, nobody has to conduct a diplomatic summit over who gets the bathroom before dinner.
